FAMILY ACTIVITIES FOR CLIMATE ACTION
EARTHSHOT RANGERS
Get Involved
Take part in Earthshot Rangers’ very first pilot programme around Portsmouth, supported by Coastal Partners. Based around our 3 core environmental principles - Explore, Protect, Restore - we’ve developed a series of activities that will get children and their families engaged in nature, enjoying spending time outdoors and learning what can and must be done to help our natural ecosystems to thrive. Earn certificates and stickers for each completed activity, and find out about the amazing science and research projects that you are helping to support!
Choose Your Mode
-
Explorers take part in fun family-friendly activities and games, including nature walks, animal spotting, arts and craft with natural materials, photo challenges and more. Explore and enjoy the beautiful natural landscapes around Portsmouth.
-
Restorers can contribute to national restoration projects like planting seaweed and grasses to restore sand dunes and habitats to promote biodiversity. You could collect litter, clear waterways or build a bug hotel, helping restore natural spaces for wildlife.
-
Protectors keep natural habitats safe from harm by learning about what they need and how to keep them safe. From supporting coastal-protection efforts and learning what measures are being taken, to recognising different animal homes and habitats and how they can be protected.

Tiny creatures need tiny homes! In this activity you will go searching for the tiniest creatures living in small spaces. You can do this activity anywhere, along the beach, in the woods, park or even around the city streets.
Resource pack includes: Activity Instructions, Photo Journal Template, Niches for Species Record Template.
Litter Picking 💪
Go on a dedicated litter picking session, or just pick up one or two pieces of litter whenever you go out. Either way, you’re helping to protect the environment and preserve natural spaces to help our wildlife thrive. Health and Safety information provided.
Resource pack includes: Activity Instructions including health and safety information and recycling instructions.

Resource pack includes: Activity Instructions, Trail Map, Bird Bingo Card.
Pebble Hunting 🔎🌳
Coastal Partners have distributed tracer pebbles around the beaches to track currents and coastal erosion. Head to the beach and see if you can find any and see what else the pebbles can tell you about the local habitats.
Resource pack includes: Activity Instructions, Pebble Guide, Pebble Art Inspiration.
A great activity to do at home by yourself or with friends. Follow the instructions to build a bug hotel, a safe space for insects to hide, survive and thrive. These bug hotels are great to provide protection for overwintering insects, but also important in the summer to offer shade and protection from preditors.
Resource pack includes: Kit list, building instructions, bug guide.
Bug Hotel 💪🌳
Mini-Pond Project 💪🌳
